The Iowa Lawyer magazine
The official flagship publication of The Iowa State Bar Association is The Iowa Lawyer magazine, which is included free as part of ISBA membership. The magazine is delivered to members' doors and inboxes every month except for a December-January combined issue. The magazine includes timely articles on issues affecting the legal profession, as well as articles that improve the practice of law.

Magazine Submissions
The Iowa State Bar Association seeks to publish original articles that advance the education, competence, ethical practice, and public responsibility of Iowa lawyers. Members are encouraged to submit articles of no longer than 1,500 words to the editor in Microsoft Word format. Include a short bio of the author(s) and professional photo(s) when submitting. Footnotes should be kept to a minimum.
By submitting any image, graphic, photograph, or other content to The Iowa State Bar Association for publication, the contributor represents and warrants that they are the owner of or have secured all necessary rights and permissions to use, reproduce, and distribute such content. The contributor agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless The Iowa State Bar Association, its employees, officers, and agents from and against any claims, demands, losses, liabilities, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or related to the contributor’s breach of this warranty or the submission of unauthorized or unlicensed content.
NOTE: Not all submissions are guaranteed publication. The editors and bar leaders review submissions to make a determination of suitability. The deadline to submit content for a specific issue is the 10th of the month preceding the issue and is subject to space availability. Email all submissions to communications@iowabar.org.
Non-ISBA Member Magazine Subscriptions
The Iowa Lawyer is free to members, but if you are a non-member of the ISBA and would like to receive The Iowa Lawyer magazine, the price per year is $40. To purchase a subscription, click here.
Iowa Lawyer Weekly
The Iowa Lawyer Weekly is a weekly electronic publication that is distributed to members of The Iowa State Bar Association who have an email address on file. It contains news and information concerning the bar and was designed to centralize email communication to members. Because of its frequency, it also allows the ISBA to send information about new developments impacting the practice of law in a more timely manner than can be accomplished with the monthly magazine.

Judicial Performance Reviews
Since Iowa adopted its merit system for selecting judges in 1962, The Iowa State Bar Association has conducted the Judicial Performance Review as a way of giving voters information on the Iowa judges up for retention that election year. The Judicial Performance Review is conducted biennially and asks members to participate in an anonymous setting.
