Do you think that you can be a good mentor? Do you need a good mentor? If yes, we hope that you will register to participate in The Iowa State Bar Association’s Build the Bar Mentorship Program.
In late 2014, The Iowa State Bar Association (ISBA) Young Lawyers Division (YLD) launched the mentoring program with the goals that the program would build collegiality, enhance professionalism, grow relationships, and better the legal profession. In 2024, the ISBA YLD is proud to roll out a refreshed mentorship program with the hopes of making long-lasting connections between new and experienced attorneys. The new Build the Bar Mentorship Program utilizes a platform called MentorLoop that brings a more modern approach to the mentor program allowing mentors and mentees to self-match and personalize the mentorship experience through customizable goal setting.
Mentors
To be a mentor, you must be an active ISBA member and licensed to practice in Iowa. The goal of the mentorship program is to strategically match mentees with mentors in like areas of interest. Mentors will be matched with mentees when it is determined that a mentor matches well with a mentee’s interest. Mentors will be added to the MentorLoop platform once a sufficient match is available. If you are interested in being a mentor, please fill out the form by selecting the "Sign Up Now" button below.
Mentees
ISBA members or potential future ISBA members planning to practice law in Iowa (including law students), are eligible to be a mentee.
If you wish to sign up as a mentee, please fill out the form by selecting the "Sign Up Now" button below. Mentees will be given access to the platform MentorLoop to make connections with mentors.
Build the Bar has been recognized by Mentorloop as a model of impactful, inclusive, and well-structured mentoring. Mentorloop commended the ISBA program for exemplifying the key criteria that set exceptional mentoring programs apart.
"The ISBA is tackling one of its biggest challenges—retaining young lawyers in the state—through its revitalized mentoring program"
