The Iowa State Bar Association’s Annual Meeting will feature a new Rural Practice Symposium exploring how attorneys can strengthen small communities while building meaningful legal careers across rural Iowa.

The ISBA saw significant success during the 2026 legislative session, with seven of its nine affirmative legislative priorities signed into law.

The ISBA is expanding its commitment to supporting rural legal practice through a new Career Center promotion designed to increase visibility for legal opportunities across Iowa’s rural communities.

The 2026 Iowa legislative session delivered major victories for the ISBA, including advancement of nearly all affirmative agenda priorities, increased indigent defense funding, and creation of a new Attorney Loan Repayment Program supporting rural legal practice.

The May issue of The Iowa Lawyer magazine explores succession planning and the future of legal practice in Iowa, with a special focus on rural communities, ethical responsibilities, and long-term sustainability for the profession.
