Drake University Law School Legal Clinic, The University of Iowa College of Law’s Center for Human Rights, and Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice (Iowa MMJ), with funding support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, are partnering to create ALL Iowa, a new collaboration to provide immigration legal assistance to Afghan Nationals in Iowa who came to the United States as part of Operation Allies Welcome.

Since Iowa adopted its merit system for selecting judges in 1962, The Iowa State Bar Association has conducted the Judicial Performance Review as a way of giving voters information on the Iowa judges up for retention that election year. The Judicial Performance Review is conducted biennially and asks members to participate in an anonymous setting.

The Third Annual Mark S. Cady Day of Public Service will take place on Friday, Oct. 21. Cady Day of Public Service is dedicated to the late Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Cady, who passed away in 2019. Members of the state’s legal community are invited to participate in some form of public service or pro bono work to honor Cady’s devotion to the pursuit of justice.

The Internal Revenue Service announced an increase in the optional standard mileage rate for the final 6 months of 2022. Taxpayers may use the optional standard mileage rates to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business and certain other purposes.

For the final six months of 2022, the standard mileage rate for business travel will be 62.5 cents per mile, up 4 cents from the rate effective at the start of the year. For more information, you can view the official news release here.
