The Iowa State Bar Association released a new Law Practice Management (LPM) Hub on Jan. 1 as a resource available to all ISBA members. The LPM Hub is a go-to source for starting, growing, managing, protecting, and closing a law firm. The hub provides all the resources needed to support a law firm from beginning to end - all in one place. ISBA members are encouraged to save the Law Practice Management (LPM) Hub link as a bookmark for reference. Informative sections include:
Starting a firm – Technology checklists, buying guides, tips for finding the best legal technology deals, videos, and articles written by attorneys will be found in this section.
Building a firm – Business development resources such as marketing, advertising, social media, referrals, articles, relevant ethics opinions, and more are featured here.
Managing a firm – This is the most densely populated area of the site, with helpful checklists, whitepapers, time billing and accounting articles, e-filing, time management, hiring and firing, working with clients, limited scope representation topics and more. There are also how-to videos, links to ethics opinions, and comparison charts to assist in navigating software and technology options.
Protecting a firm – There is an ethical obligation to protect client data, and this section helps do just that with educational checklists for disaster preparedness, articles on building a cybersecurity plan, and more. (Also, noteworthy here is that Trustifi is an email encryption service offered to ISBA members at no additional cost!)
Closing a firm – Whether closing or merging law firms, there are checklists to make sure that no stone is left unturned. Succession planning guidelines are here as well. It is never too early to start planning.
Training videos - The Iowa State Bar Association has compiled a selection of videos to help you navigate the day-to-day programs you may be using in your office. Scroll through the list below and click the link to access training on some of the most commonly used programs.
ISBA members can start off the year with the peace of mind that the support, resources, and services necessary to manage a law practice successfully are included in membership.
