The Iowa State Bar Association (ISBA) has welcomed a new group of volunteer leaders following recent elections for the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) Executive Council and the newly formed Board of Directors.
Among the highlights of this year's elections was the selection of the first at-large members of the ISBA's newly established Board of Directors. Members elected to serve in these inaugural positions are DeShawne Bird-Sell, Jennifer Harrington, and Mary Rose Shelley. The three officially joined the board during the ISBA's Annual Meeting on June 25. The creation of the at-large positions reflects the association's ongoing commitment to strengthening its governance structure while ensuring broad representation among Iowa attorneys.
In addition to the board elections, members also selected new officers and representatives to serve on the ISBA YLD Executive Council. Katherine Shimkat was elected Secretary, while Kacy Flaherty-Tarpey was elected as the association's ABA House of Delegates Young Lawyers Division Delegate.
Members also elected the following district representatives:
- District 1A: Alyssa Carlson
- District 1B: Thomas Richter
- District 3A: Claire Solsma
- District 5C: Josh Hughes, Amber Crow, Clark Butler
- District 8B: Ed Hayer
The newly elected leaders bring a broad range of experience and perspectives to the association as they begin their terms. Together with continuing members of the ISBA Board of Governors and YLD Executive Council, they will help guide the ISBA's strategic priorities, support its members, and advance the legal profession across Iowa.
The ISBA congratulates each of these members on their election and thanks all candidates who volunteered to serve Iowa's legal community through leadership roles.
