The IRS Stakeholder Liaison is hosting a series of 30-minute pop-up briefings this November to help practitioners learn what to look out for and how to protect themselves from data breaches and scams. During the sessions, IRS cybersecurity experts will discuss the most common and damaging scams targeting practitioners, including examples of fraudulent emails and schemes designed to steal client information. Attendees will also learn what steps to take if they experience a data breach, the resources available to support them—including the Written Information Security Plan (WISP)—and how to use Identity Protection PINs to safeguard federal tax return information. The program will also highlight how scams and data breaches are affecting professionals locally and offer practical ways to strengthen data security in your practice.
Sessions are scheduled for Thursday, Nov.13, Wednesday, Nov.19, and Tuesday, Nov. 25, with two times offered each day at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. No registration is required, simply join the Teams meeting at your preferred date and time. Speakers include Glenn Gizzi, Senior Tax Analyst for the IRS Data Breach Program, and Mark Henderson, Information Technology Specialist in Cybersecurity.
Practitioners with questions about scams or data breaches are encouraged to email StakeholderLiaison@irs.gov in advance of the program. For more information and a link to join, view the IRS Data Breach flyer here.
