DEI Then, DEI Now, and DEI Forever with Henry Hamilton III

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are core American ideals, rooted in the country’s founding belief that all individuals deserve the opportunity to achieve their full potential without fear of discrimination. Lawyers have historically been key players in establishing these principles, from the drafting of the Declaration of Independence to the protections enshrined in the Constitution. Yet, the path to equality has been fraught with challenges—and the work is far from over.

To address the evolving role of DEI in America, The Iowa State Bar Association continuing legal education (CLE) upcoming event, DEI Then, DEI Now, and DEI Forever, offers an opportunity for legal professionals to reflect on the progress made, the obstacles that remain, and the lawyer’s duty to uphold these values amid contemporary challenges. The event will take place over the noon hour on Monday, January 13, and has been approved for 1 state CLE hour which includes 1 diversity hour.

Led by Henry Hamilton III, a distinguished member of the Federal Administrative Law Judiciary, this live webinar will explore the historical evolution of DEI, shedding light on who has and who has not been able to fully claim the benefits of freedom and equality in the United States. Participants will also engage in a discussion about the relevance of DEI programs in today’s climate and examine the role attorneys play in promoting justice and equity within a changing societal framework.
