COVID-19 Statement

Statement on COVID-19 from The Iowa State Bar Association

In response to the developing situation surrounding COVID-19 and with the health and safety of ISBA members, guests, staff and our communities being our top priority,  The Iowa State Bar Association has decided to close the ISBA Building in Des Moines until May 24. All inquiries should be directed to or 515-243-3179. The ISBA will reassess this closure before May 24 and determine if an extension is needed.

In partnership with Iowa Legal Aid, the ISBA and Polk County Volunteer Lawyers Project are stepping up to create a hotline to help Iowans with legal issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 Legal Information Hotline, announced by the governor on Tuesday, focuses on helping Iowans with COVID-19 issues related to evictions, foreclosures, employment, domestic violence, child custody, living wills, business issues and more. The hotline phone number is 1-800-332-0419.

The ISBA has also decided to adjust its planned programming. The ISBA Administrative Committee and senior ISBA staff have decided to take these measures to comply with recommendations to increase "social distancing" to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Effective Friday, March 13:

  • All ISBA meetings and CLEs will be offered as live webinars only through at least May 24.
  • The 2020 Bench-Bar Conference to be held in Sioux City in May will be postponed to a yet-to-be-determined date.

We will continue to evaluate the situation and determine the status of future events in the coming weeks. Staff members are available by phone or email to answer questions on future events.

We apologize for any disruption in plans that these changes may cause. We greatly appreciate the support and dedication of our volunteers who organize these programs.
