The Iowa Supreme Court is requesting public comment on proposed amendments to Chapter 23 of the Iowa Court Rules regarding time standards for case processing.

Currently, Iowa's case processing time standards are stated in terms of the length of time from filing to "commencement of trial." Since the vast majority of cases don't go to trial, the proposed amended language tracks the percentage of cases disposed from filing to "disposition." According to Acting Chief Justice David Wiggins, this approach should provide clearer guidance for judges and case managers and provide a more accurate measure of court performance.
