The town-hall-style discussion of the rule of law will be held at 6 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 21, at Drake University’s Sheslow Auditorium, 2507 University Avenue in Des Moines. The discussion and a reception following the event is free and open to the public.
Sponsored by the International Bar Association, the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute and Drake University, the Des Moines session is one of several being held around the country. The discussion centers around the questions: Exactly what do we mean when we talk about the rule of Law? Why does the rule of law – or its absence – matter? Who is responsible for keeping an eye out for the rule of law?
A four-person panel including Iowa Supreme Court Justice Edward Mansfield, former Congressman Jim Leach, the Director of the Drake’s Constitutional Law Center Mark Kende and the Executive Editor of the Des Moines Register Carol Hunter will address the questions.
