A town hall-style nonpartisan discussion of the rule of law featuring local speakers will be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 21, at Drake University’s Sheslow Auditorium. Sponsored by the International Bar Association and the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute, the Des Moines session is one of several being held around the country.
The discussion centers around the questions: Exactly what do we mean when we talk about the rule of law? Why does the rule of law – or its absence – matter? Who is responsible for keeping an eye out for the rule of law? Speakers include a former or current member of Congress, a judge, a journalist and an academic. The event is free and open to the public.
