Due to the growing interest in initial People’s Law School events, the ISBA is hosting an encore public education event on medicaid eligibility for nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. This free public event will be held at the bar association headquarters at 625 E. Court in Des Moines on Tuesday, July 16, at 5:30 p.m., and is also being livestreamed to Centerville, thanks to the Appanoose County Bar Association and the Drake Public Library at 115 Drake Ave.

The ISBA People’s Law School provides free, educational events where members of the public can find answers to life’s legal questions. Speakers present information on a variety of legal topics and answer general questions. Next month’s speaker is Scott Hartsook, former managing attorney of the Legal Hotline for Older Iowans, a special project of Iowa Legal Aid that provides free legal advice to Iowans who are 60 or older.

ISBA People’s Law School events typically take place on the third Tuesday of the month from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Programming focuses on a variety of issues impacting Iowans including: the basics of wills and revocable trusts; buying and selling a home, mortgages and foreclosure; establishing guardianships and conservatorships; modifying child custody and visitation decrees and more. ISBA People’s Law School event videos and related Ask An Attorney short videos will be available on the ISBA’s Iowa Find-A-Lawyer website after events.

Please help spread the word about this ISBA public service initiative. If your local bar association is interested in leading an upcoming ISBA People’s Law School event livestream to your community, or if you have ideas for future topics and speakers, please contact: peopleslawschool@iowabar.org.
