Communications Director Needed

The Iowa State Bar Association, located in Des Moines, Iowa, is seeking to hire a creative, pro-active professional to assume the varied responsibilities of this position when the current Director retires. This individual directs internal and external communications using both traditional print and emerging technologies to reach both members and the public. As managing editor of the association magazine the director selects feature articles, writes original articles and creates new features; also oversees the design, layout, production and ensures timely distribution of the magazine. In the capacity of managing editor the director also oversees the marketing of the magazine including monitoring advertising contracts and evaluating income. The director is responsible for the over-all quality of all written materials including pamphlets and brochures. It is most important that this individual is an expert in the use of social media and emerging technologies such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Pinterest and YouTube to engage audiences online for activities across the organization. Other responsibilities include developing and issuing press releases to newspapers and the media; supervising the production and distribution of public service videos and pamphlets; serving as staff photographer; and responding to inquiries from public and organizations regarding association activities and programs.


Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or English; quantifiable experience in production of electronic and print content (writing, reporting and photography) and proficiency in the use of social media (blogging, writing, networking and tracking). Candidates with experience in a similar position at this level will receive the highest consideration.
