10:00 - 11:00 - Privileges and Ethical Considerations - Speaker - Tim Hill, Bradley & Riley PC

This presentation will explore recent decisions in the ever-developing jurisprudence of attorney-client privilege/work product doctrine law.  Included will be a discussion of privilege issues during internal investigations, ethical considerations surrounding privilege issues, maintaining client confidences and avoiding disqualification when discussing a matter with colleagues and litigating in the "court" of public opinion, all geared for government

Overview of Iowa's open meetings laws, open records laws, and the procedures utilized by the state's regulatory body in administering those laws.

Hugh Cain is an attorney with Hopkins & Huebner in Des Moines.  His practice concentrates in employment and local government law.  He is past Section Chair of the ISBA's Sections on Employment and Government Practice.
2:00 - 3:00 - Iowa Rule Making Basics - Speaker: Jack Ewing, Iowa Legislative Services Agency
This presentation will provide an overview of the executive branch rule making process in Iowa, including the oversight role played by the legislature's Administrative Rules Review Committee and opportunities for the public to participate in the rule making process.

3:15 - 4:15 - Advice from Administrative Law Judges - Do's and Don'ts - Speakers: Emily Chafa, Administrative Law Judge, Department of Inspections and Appeals; Miki McGovern, Administrative Law Judge, Deputy Workers’ Compensation Commissioner; and Devon Lewis, Administrative Law Judge, Iowa Workforce Development (Ethics CLE)
Three experienced administrative law judges (ALJs) will describe the procedural basics of various types of administrative proceedings, and will offer practice tips for attorneys who appear in administrative hearings. The ALJs will also discuss the Code of Administrative Judicial Conduct and provide examples of its application to specific administrative proceedings.

6 state hours which includes 2 ethics and 1 federal hour
