The presentation will provide a summary of the applicable law and checklist/forms for preparation for a removal hearing from the perspective of the GAL and the parent's attorney.

Iowa Adjudication

Speaker: Rachel Antonnucio, Juvenile Division of the Iowa City Public Defender’s Office

This part will provide an overview of the Iowa adjudication law, suggestions for creating an adjudication stipulation (written or oral) that all parties can live with, and ideas about how to prepare for and conduct a contested adjudication trial. Adjudication is a hearing to determine whether the State has proved that your child is "in need of assistance” and the court supervision is required.

Effective Use of Reasonable Efforts to Impact Permanency Outcomes in CINA Cases

Speaker: Ellen Ramsey-Kacena

This section will focus on cornerstone principles of reasonable efforts for families involved in juvenile court, including crafting service plans to best meet the needs of families. The discussion will also include participating in the drafting of and reviewing case plan requirements and effectively advocating at the family team meetings, staffings and court.
