At this year’s annual Labor and Employment section seminar, Vice-Chair Emily Pontius and I have designed a seminar we hope brings you information on topics not often discussed at law education meetings and fresh perspectives on familiar topics. One such less familiar topic, transgender issues in the workplace, promises to be both timely and interesting. For the first time, due to recent landmark changes in federal employment law, transgender employees in every state have legal recourse against workplace discrimination. You have a remarkable opportunity to learn firsthand about this new paradigm from transgender business expert, pioneering author, and in-demand speaker Vanessa Sheridan. Don't miss this engaging presentation from one of the national transgender community's leading voices. Our keynote speaker, Vanessa Sheridan literally wrote the book on transgender in the workplace.

Joseph Schneider PhD (Drake University Sociology Professor) and David Drake D.O. (Des Moines Psychiatrist) will talk about how stress, depression, and anxiety impact our clients’ (and our own) workplaces. They will also discuss the mindfulness movement, the subject of more and more research suggesting one method of dealing with those common issues impacting us and our clients.

Finally, familiar faces and voices will talk about other interesting issues. We believe the seminar will be substantive and interesting and maybe just a little bit off the well worn path. Please join us!
