The presentation will focus on the work of the three Divisions of the Iowa Department of Human Rights, including the Division on Criminal Juvenile Justice Planning (CJJP), Division on Community Action Agencies (CAA) with special emphasis on the Division on Community Advocacy and Services (CAS).  The CAS Division includes sever offices of underrepresented populations in Iowa including Women, African Americans, Latinos, Asian Pacific Islanders, persons with disabilities, persons who are deaf, and Native Americans. We will discuss the services these offices, their commissions work, and several projects the division is working on. 

Heidi Smith, DHR - Community Advocacy and Services

Heidi Smith started as the Deputy Director/Division administrator for CAS (Community Advocacy and Services) at the Department of Human Rights in June 2012.  She has worked in disability services for 15 years and worked in management since 1997.  Heidi Smith most recent role was Director of Services for People with Disabilities at Lutheran Services in Iowa.  Some of her past roles include Director of Programs and Services at Brian Injury Association, Jasper County Social worker, as well as several leadership promotions at Lutheran Services in Iowa.
