Judicial deference to federal agencies' interpretation of statutes has been governed by Chevron U.S.A. Inc. v. Natural Resources Defense Council, Inc., 468 U.S. 1227 (1984) while Renda v. Iowa Civil Rights Commission, 784 N.W.2d 8 (Iowa 2010) has governed judicial deference to state agencies' interpretation in Iowa. With growing criticism of these deference doctrines from scholars and some judges, this presentation will examine the future of Chevron and Renda with two distinguished experts.
