Know Your Constitution
Know Your Constitution Program

Know Your Constitution involves a multiple choice quiz and short essay for students in grades 9-12 on the U.S. Constitution. Winning entries are selected from each of Iowa’s 100 legislative districts. The selected students and their teachers are honored at a special luncheon in January where five students and their teachers are selected to attend a week-long program in Washington, D.C. through the Close Up Foundation.

This year's luncheon will take place on Friday, January 12 at the Holiday Inn at 4800 Merle Hay Road in Johnston. The lunch program, featuring keynote speaker the Honorable Justice Bruce Zager of the Iowa Supreme Court, will begin at 12:30 p.m. The lunch will be preceded by a seminar discussion of this year’s essay topic with a constitutional scholar. This year’s essay question asks students to consider the constitutional implications of a school district policy taking action against students who do not stand for the national anthem at school events.
