recognized 56 Iowa attorneys for each donating 50 or more hours toward eligible
pro bono legal services in the past year. The attorneys accumulated the hours
through the three volunteer lawyer projects and other pro bono activities.
The names of attorneys who donated pro bono time in the past year are
listed on the ISBA website here.
Login is required to view the attorneys listed. Without the time these
attorneys put forward, hundreds of Iowans would not have received needed legal

Iowa attorneys, judges
encouraged to attend reception for Kosovar Judge Delegation
The Davis Brown Law Firm
will host a meet and greet reception for a Kosovar judge delegation at their
law firm in Des Moines, Oct. 22 from 5 – 7 p.m. The group of young judges from
Kosovo are visiting Iowa throughout next week through the Open World Leadership
The program, piloted in
1999, is a U.S. exchange program that pairs post-Soviet countries with
sister-states in the United States to establish lasting professional
relationships between up-and-coming leaders. Delegations normally consist of
political and civic leaders selected through a competitive vetting process.
The five Kosovar judges
are participating in the Open World Leadership Center program, under the theme
‘Judicial Rule of Law.’ They will be accompanied by Zana Berisha, U.S. Agency
for International Development Rule of Law Project Management Specialist.
Iowa attorneys are
encouraged to join in the reception where light appetizers and drinks will be
available. Those interested in participating must RSVP by Monday, Oct. 20.

awareness event to be held in West Des Moines
A West Des Moines church is
hosting a human trafficking awareness event Oct. 23 from 7-9 p.m. at the
Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines. The event is open for all to

the U.S. sex industry annually, many from right here in Iowa.
The event will feature
Tina Frudnt a trafficking survivor and victims expert. Tina will be joined by Michael
Ferjak, Senior Criminal Investigator with the Iowa Department of Justice,
Office of the Attorney General and Director of the Department of Justice Human
Trafficking Enforcement and Prosecution Initiative. Michael will be sharing an
update on trafficking developments in Iowa.

Fastcase partners with
Clio, offers time savings
Fastcase, a free legal
research tool for ISBA members, recently partnered with Clio, a law practice
software offered to ISBA members at a 10 percent lifetime discount, integrating
legal research and practice management. The integration allows legal
professionals the ability to track time spent researching specific client
matters, reducing the need for time spent on administrative tasks.

walk-through of the integration in a recent blog post here. Attorneys who subscribe to both

Supreme Court Justices to
Meet with Storm Lake Area Students, Visit Area Courthouses
Tomorrow, Oct. 16, members
of the Iowa Supreme Court will visit three Storm Lake area high schools and
Buena Vista University to meet with students and discuss the role of the
courts. The justices will visit St. Mary's, Washington Cherokee and Storm Lake
High Schools. The justices will also visit clerk of court offices in
courthouses near Storm Lake.

Legal services jobs drop sharply in September
The U.S. legal services sector shed 4,600 jobs in September,
the biggest one-month drop in employment for the field in nearly five years.

Thomas Eric Duncan, the first person
to be diagnosed with Ebola in the United States, died from the virus
