Iowa Supreme Court orders new classification for retired
The Iowa Supreme Court created a new
licensing class for retired attorneys by approving amendments to chapters 39,
41 and 42 of the Iowa Court Rules on Aug. 19. Some of the amendments will
become effective Sept. 1. The rest will become effective Jan. 1, 2018.
The new licensing class will be for
attorneys who are fully retired, while
the exempt status will remain for those who are inactive but want to retain the
ability to reinstate to active status. The new classifications are available
prospectively and include a five-year period of conversion privileges for
attorneys in exempt status.
The order, amendments and a memo
from the Office of Professional Regulation regarding the new rules are available for further review on the court's website.
