While no single document or checklist can address all the possible questions or circumstances that an attorney will encounter in the process of closing his/her practice, the provided resources attempt to address the essential responsibilities that will shape the events. Succession Planning Handbook for Iowa Lawyers
The Office of Professional Regulation of the Iowa Supreme Court released the Lawyer Succession Planning Guide in 2011.The guide helps attorneys protect the interests of their clients in the event of disability or death. The guide covers why succession planning is necessary, applicable rules, what happens if no succession plan exists, recommended plans for both sole practitioners and law firms, recommended forms and much more.
