The ISBA’s SOLACE (Support of Lawyers/Legal Personnel, All Concern Encouraged) Program started several years ago but its purpose remains the same: to enable the legal community to reach out in a small, but meaningful and compassionate ways to those judges, lawyers, court personnel, paralegals, legal secretaries, bar staff and their families who experience a death or catastrophic illness or injury. The program is designed to provide services, guidance or other assistance when a critical need arises.
The ISBA SOLACE network collaborates with ISBA members and close friends and family of those affected by tragedy or dire circumstances to determine how best to express concern and provide support. Examples of requests made to the ISBA SOLACE program include referrals to medical specialists, donations of blood, assistance with travel related to doctor’s appointments or medical issues, etc. Requests for money, prayer chains, any form of substantive law practice support or referrals of a non-critical nature (i.e. looking for a job, handyman, etc.) are not accepted by the program.
When the ISBA’s SOLACE program administrator receives a request for help, the ISBA SOLACE network is activated via a message to the ISBA SOLACE listserv. Members of the ISBA SOLACE network respond when they can or want to help and there is no obligation to do so. If you want to sign up to be a part of the ISBA’s SOLACE listserv, please email email@example.com.
If you learn that a member of the legal community is in critical need due to tragedy or dire circumstances or if you have questions about the program, please send an e-mail request for help to the ISBA SOLACE program administrator at firstname.lastname@example.org.
