In an order signed Thursday, Sept. 15, the Iowa Supreme Court requests comments on a revised set of proposed final rules pertaining to the use of the electronic document management system in district courts. The deadline for comment is 4:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14.

The current request comes as a result of the court’s revision of the EDMS rules to incorporate comments received last winter during a public comment period. The court has also recast Chapter 16 as the Iowa Rules of Electronic Procedure.

The revised rules, which can be viewed here in strikethrough format and here in a clean version, clarify when service is considered complete [16:201(11)], exceptions from electronic filing [16:302(2)], filing errors [16:308], computation of deadlines [16:309], submitting voluminous exhibits, videos and audio [16:412], and disallowing warrants and emergency applications in juvenile cases to be submitted via a tablet [16:702] [16:802]
