The Iowa Supreme Court is scheduled to hear oral arguments at Ankeny Centennial High School on Sept. 13. The arguments, based on the so-called ‘exclusionary rule’ are open to the public and begin at 7 pm in the school auditorium.

In this case, State of Iowa v. Troy Richard Brooks no. 15-0101 from Polk County District Court, defendant Brooks argues that the Iowa Constitution requires the court to apply the exclusionary rule to improperly seized evidence during probation revocation proceedings. Brooks seeks to overturn a previous Iowa Supreme Court opinion that held the exclusionary rule does not apply to probation revocation proceedings.

This is the first of two sessions in the ‘Court on the Road’ series this month, with a second in Keokuk on Sept. 19. That case relates to the rezoning of land around the Field of Dreams baseball site. More information, as well as guides to the cases, can be found at the Supreme Court’s website.
