Sanctions Sought for Law Firm Accused of Using Inadvertently Produced Info to Solicit New Clients
Counsel for some of the defendants in complex nationwide litigation concerning claimed defects in ASR hip implants marketed by a unit of Johnson & Johnson are asking a Georgia judge to sanction an Atlanta law firm.
Childers Schlueter & Smith was already representing plaintiffs in some of the approximately 4,500 suits filed against entities involved in distributing and implanting the ASR devices, following a 2010 recall by J&J's DePuy unit.

ISBA President-Elect, Cindy Moser, is asking for volunteers to serve on the various section councils and committees in the association. She will be making appointments to the councils early this spring.
Notice of public forum on lawyer advertising
The Supreme Court Committee to Study Lawyer Advertising Rules will hold two public forums to discuss advertising rules for Iowa lawyers. The forums are offered to give interested persons an opportunity to voice their opinion on the current rules. They are also intended to assist the committee in proposing amendments to the rules to improve their effectiveness.

New Jury Orientation Video
The Iowa State Bar Association, with the help of Linda Neuman (Retired Iowa Supreme Court Justice) and Robert Mahan (Iowa Court of Appeals Senior Judge), has produced a new jury orientation video which you can view here. A copy of this video will be mailed out to each Clerk of Court by mid-February.
Disabled Service Members and Employment Video
This video specifically addresses the issue of employment and reemployment rights for service members who return from active duty injured in such a way that they can’t perform the same jobs they were doing when deployed. This is the second video produced by the ISBA’s Public Relations Committee to help clients, friends or family members who are struggling to understand their responsibilities for employing – or perhaps more important – reemploying veterans who’ve returned from a deployment.
