With the aging of America’s population, attorneys and other professionals can expect to see more legal questions arise regarding capacity, impairment, planning for incapacity, and rights. This elder law intensive will seek to create a learning environment in which topics such as capacity, competency, powers of attorney, guardianship, elder abuse, Medicaid and rights for long-term care residents are presented and discussed. When someone needs assistance making financial or personal care decisions, planning for the future, paying for long-term care, or having their rights protected, what options are available? These questions will be addressed throughout the intensive so that participants can learn about and discuss the legal options available.

This Governor’s Conference on Aging & Disabilities, taking place May 23-26, will celebrate older adults and adults with disabilities and shine a spotlight on the strides organizations and individuals in Iowa and across the country are taking to re-imagine the aging and disability networks.
