Ethics Opinions Iowa Supreme Court Board of Professional Ethics and Conduct Date of Opinion: 03/08/2000 Opinion Number: 99-11 Title: LAW LISTS: HARMONIE GROUP Opinion: You ask for authority under DR 2-103(C)(2) of the Iowa Code of Professional Responsibility for Lawyers, to participate in the Harmonie Group, (the Group), a Minnesota corporation. The Group is a network of independent law firms with significant defense practices and a clientele consisting in whole or in part of members of the risk industry, i.e. insurance companies, self-insurers, risk retention groups, third party administrators, and insurers with significant self-insured retentions. It has members in 47 states. The applicants (your firm and the Group) have made a showing to the satisfaction of the Board that both the firm and the Group have complied with the requirements of DR 2-103(C)(2) and do now comply therewith. Therefore it is the opinion of the Board that under the Iowa Code of Professional Responsibility for Lawyers, the firm and Iowa lawyers properly may participate in the Group and in a directory published by the Group subject to continuing compliance with the requirements of DR 2-103(C)(2) by the Group and Iowa participants.
